Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
