Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

However, Marseille fired two times late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
